1998
April. Mexichem appeared in 1998 as a new name for the industrial group comprising Química Pennwalt, S.A. de C.V. and Polímeros de Mexico, S.A. de C.V.
The name was sought to highlight the company’s focus on chemicals, making it easily recognizable in the global market, but also acknowledging the organization’s geographical origins.
Mexichem counted with the support of two great companies: Elf Atochem, the chemical subsidiary of French oil company Elf Aquitaine, and Grupo Empresarial Privado Mexicano, a holding for industrial companies comprised of Mexican investors. These companies were also Mexichem’s major stockholders.
The adoption of this official name bears the commitment to establish a new organizational culture for the company, whose strategic focus is the development of businesses in the chemical industry, particularly in chlorine products and their integration into the plastic resins chain.
