Our commitment to social responsibility is part of our culture, our values, and our daily activities. At Mexichem we are committed to sustainable development because we know that it is the only way for Mexichem as a company -and México as a country- to achieve long-term viability.

We have developed assistance programs for the communities in which our manufacturing facilities are located. By engaging with these communities, we are able to better understand their needs, and we have established agreements with the major universities in those regions to develop partnerships and joint training programs for the purposes of developing initiatives and facilities, such as schools, to improve the quality of their lives.

In order to meet our commitment to social responsibility, Mexichem supports Fundación Kaluz A.C. through monthly donations. Fundación Kaluz directs the donations to programs that benefit underserved communities with basic goods such as food, clothing, and housing. Fundación Kaluz also develops programs that support human development, including education, sports, and cultural initiatives.

In our quest to make social responsibility a commitment for everyone, we work with Fondo Unido, a philanthropic and social development organization that develops community assistance programs. Our employees work with Fondo Unido to create awareness campaigns, donate funds, and determine the destination of the funds based on Fondo Unido guidelines. Through committees, the employees verify that the funds reach their destinations. The participation rate and the amount collected have increased every year since the program’s inception at Mexichem. This not only benefits our communities but enables us to participate in the creation of solutions to community challenges.

In addition to fully complying with Mexican environmental and safety laws, we have followed the comprehensive responsibility program sponsored by ANIQ, the Asociación Nacional de la Industria Química, or national chemical industry association. This association, which sets best-practice industry standards, is similar to the Responsible Care program developed in the United States. Primex has been recognized for meeting the standards established by ANIQ.

Mexichem has Clean Industry and ISO 14001 certifications and has worked to improve the ecoefficiency of its operations, in particular with regard to the economically efficient use of byproducts of our production processes in order to reduce our environmental impacts. In the past, many byproducts or residues of these processes had to be specially treated, which resulted in higher costs and greater environmental impacts. The new processes that we have developed not only reduce our environmental impacts, they also benefit our operations economically. For example, in 2005 we were first in the nation in Thermal Energy Savings, thanks to the energy efficiency program we implemented at Cloro de Tehuantepec.
