Hydrochloric acid is used to produce high fructose, which is in turn used as a sweetener in the soft drink, candy, and beer industries; it is widely used in metal stripping and wire stretching; in the pharmaceutical industry to produce medicines; in making pigments and dyes; in ferric chloride, which is used in lithography, among others. It is also widely used in the manufacture of plastics and rubber, in the petroleum industry, in ceramics, etc.
Hydrochloric acid is a transparent or slightly cloudy liquid ranging from colorless to light yellow. Hydrochloric acid is a corrosive liquid in any concentration; it can be identified by its characteristically irritating smell.
Hydrochloric acid is transported in carbon steel auto tanks with a rubber or reinforced glass fiber coating, in high-density polyethylene jars or drums.
