The Vinyl-Chlorine Chain starts from the extraction of underground salt, which then is later processed into other products, such as chlorine, caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite and other sub-products, ending with the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Mexichem companies participating in this supply chain are:

Unión Minera del Sur, located at Jaltipan, Veracruz where sodium chlorine brine is extracted. This brine is sent to the Coatzacoalcos Plant through a 43 km piping system. Around 1,500 tons of dried based salt are pumped on a daily basis.

Mexichem Derivados produces and commercializes chlorine-caustic soda and derivative by-products in three different plants as follows:

  1. Coatzacoalcos Plant, located at the “Pajaritos” Industrial Complex in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. This plant is ranked second place of its kind in Latin America. It has an annual production capacity of 268,000 tons of chlorine caustic soda and 61,300 tons of hypochlorite. This production is aimed to the chlorine-gas process from PEMEX, where it is used in the VCM manufacturing which later on, is utilized in the production of PVC resins.
  2. Santa Clara Plant, located in the State of Mexico, has an annual production capacity of: 39,000 tons of Chlorine-Caustic Soda, more than 130,000 tons of Sodium Hypochlorite and 54,000 tons of Hydrochloric Acid. It also has a Caustic Soda distribution center which annually moves 120,000 tons of this specific product.
  3. El Salto Plant, located at El Salto, Jalisco, has an annual production capacity of: 35,800 tons of Chlorine-Caustic Soda, more than 70,000 tons of Sodium Hypochlorite, and 25,000 tons of Hydrochloric Acid.

Mexichem Resinas Vinilicas consists of two industrial plants located in Altamira, Tamaulipas and Tlaxcala. It has its own chain in itself. This consists of Phthalic Anhydride that is used for the manufacturing of plasticizers (among other applications), which in next stages is integrated to the production of PVC compounds. PVC Compounds represent the final stage of the Chlorine Vinyl chain. The annual production of suspension resins rises up to 349,000 tons and the annual production of emulsion resins goes up to 12,500 tons.

Mexichem Estireno consists of two plants located in the State of Mexico.

1.- Cuautitlan Izcalli Cuamatla Plant, produces Polystyrene for the food industry of dishes and cups. Its products are focused towards the following sectors: food industry, media, pharmaceutical industry, refrigerant industry, self-service stores and wholesale markets, and others.

2.- Cuautitlan Izcalli La luz Plant, produces and commercializes expanded Polystyrene in different densities and shapes. The main applications are: booths or stands, blocks, plates, domes, molds, matrix, strips, seedbeds and boxes for construction, isolating, decorating, packaging, and farming industries.

Foreign operations, We have two companies operating abroad

1.- Bayshore, located at Tennent, N.J. U.S.A. producing PVC rigid and flexible world class quality compounds. Its production capacity is 17,000 annual tons.

Mexichem Colombia, located at Bogotá, Colombia, produces and distributes Liquid Caustic Soda, PENNCLORITO (sodium hypochlorite), Iron Chlorine (the only plant producing Anhydride Iron Chlorine (98% Min.) in America and other specialized chemical products (calcium stearate, red devil) liquid bleachers (household and industrial cleaning products), It has an annual production capacity of 13,000 tons of Sodium Hypochlorite and 5,000 tons of Iron Chloride.
